Wilkes University participates in Hess Demand Response program, PPL’s program to ensure energy needs are met during extreme weather conditions, such as the current prolonged heat spell. When the grid is being taxed extremely, Wilkes agrees to shed some of its energy load to ensure that emergency facilities, such as hospitals, nursing homes and fire departments, have sufficient power. As a result, effective at 2 p.m. today, air conditioning and building mechanicals will be powered down campus wide. All employees are being dismissed for the day effective at 2 p.m. as well.
Please note that the provost will be contacting faculty directly about relocating classes. We do not plan to cancel classes at this time.
At this time, we do not know when buildings will be returned to full power, but it will be some time this evening. There is a possibility the same situation will happen tomorrow.
