1. Why change passwords?

Computer intrusions have grown so rapidly in recent years that they now represent a critical threat to everyone with a User ID and Password.  Frequently changing you password is one way to help prevent computer intrusions and protect your personal information.

2. How do I change my password?

Users may change their password using the Change Password Tool located in the Account Management Tools channel on the Help Tab in MyWilkes. If you have forgotten your password or fail to change it before it expires you can use the Self-Help Password Reset tool by clicking on the “Forgot your Password?” link on the login page of MyWilkes.  Contact the Help Desk if you are not able to reset your password using this method at 570-408-HELP (4357) or 866-264-1462.

3. What are the rules for changing my password?

Your new password needs to meet the following criteria:

    • have at least 8 character(s)!

    • have upper and lower case characters!

    • have a leading letter! • have at least 1 digit(s)!

    • not be an exact dictionary word match!

    • not contain your username!

    • not contain your username backwards!

    • not be your username with the letters rearranged!

    • not be an old password!

    • may have at least 1 punctuation mark(s)!

    • may not contain the !,@,#,&,*,%,$ symbol due to incompatibility with Oracle systems!

4. How often must I change my password?

Your password needs to be changed at least once every 180 days. Of course you can change it more frequently if so desired.

5. What happens if I don't change my password before the 180 days are up?

Everyone must have their password changed every 180 days. If you don't, your username will be locked, and you will need to use the Self-Help Password Reset tool by clicking on the “Forgot your Password?” link on the login page of MyWilkes or contact the  Help Desk at x4357 to regain access.

7. What if I can't remember my old password?

If you have forgotten your password you can use the Self-Help Password Reset tool by clicking on the “Forgot your Password?” link on the login page of MyWilkes.  Contact the Help Desk if you are not able to reset your password using this method at 570-408-HELP (4357) or 866-264-1462.

8. I tried to type in my password multiple times times and now I am locked out - what does this mean?

As part of the account security accounts are locked after 5 unsuccessful attempts. This is meant to stop people from guessing or using a "Brute Force" attack to gain access to your account. If you have locked your account it will become active again in 15 minutes. If you cannot remember you password, please  use the Self-Help Password Reset tool by clicking on the “Forgot your Password?” link on the login page of MyWilkes.

9. Can I reuse my old passwords?

Your new password cannot be one of the last 5 previously used password. 

 

10. Will I be reminded that my password is about to expire?

You will receive a notification that you password is about to expire starting 14 days before the expiration.
